Terms of use and participation

1. Provider, scope and contractual partner

These terms govern use of the TaleAlley app and participation in TaleAlley adventures. The provider of the app and the game experiences is SkriptAtelier UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Am Mausepfad 34, 34474 Diemelstadt, Germany (“TaleAlley” or “we”).

Tickets bought through our Paddle checkout are purchased from Paddle as the independent seller and merchant of record. For consumers in Germany, under Paddle's current terms, this is Paddle.com Market Limited, 30 Old Bailey, London EC4M 7AU, United Kingdom. Depending on the buyer's country, another Paddle company may be the contractual partner. Purchase, payment, invoicing and statutory withdrawal rights under the purchase contract are governed by Paddle's buyer terms included in the checkout and by mandatory statutory provisions. These terms additionally govern the user relationship with TaleAlley. A separate company event agreed directly with SkriptAtelier is subject to the individual offer and, where applicable, our B2B terms.

2. What TaleAlley offers

TaleAlley is a digital, location-based city adventure. Depending on the story, players follow a plot, solve puzzles, reach real places and use digital tools, roles, clues and media content. You can take part alone or with several devices in a team. The features, approximate playing times, age information and technical requirements stated in the offer describe the selected adventure. The stated playing times are guidelines, not binding time limits.

TaleAlley does not provide personal on-site guidance, traffic safety for the public routes visited, tour guiding or a guarantee of access to third-party facilities. We cooperate with cities, attractions or their operators only where we expressly say so.

3. Tickets, devices and number of participants

A ticket generally entitles one participating device to take part once in the purchased story. Each additional device of your own generally requires another ticket. For a joint booking, one event code is provided for the team and the purchased number of device places. Children who, under section 4, play along on an accompanying adult's device without their own TaleAlley player do not need their own device place.

The purchased number of devices must not be exceeded. The adventure may be started with fewer devices. The intended participants may receive the event code before the start. Publishing it or reselling it commercially is not permitted. Changing devices during an adventure that is already running is not regularly supported. In the event of a defect, we help find a reasonable solution where possible. Mandatory statutory claims remain unaffected.

Under our offer, tickets have no fixed redemption deadline. They do not entitle you to any number of repeat runs. If an adventure can permanently no longer be provided for legal, safety or technical reasons, the buyer's statutory rights remain unaffected. We help clarify the matter with Paddle.

4. Participation of minors

Only adults may buy tickets. An individual TaleAlley player on their own phone is possible from the age of 13 at the earliest. Minors with their own player need approval from a person with parental responsibility for the specific adventure and participant place before joining. Throughout the adventure, at least one suitable adult must actually play in the team and ensure the necessary supervision. This person may have parental responsibility or may have been entrusted with supervision for the specific adventure by a person with parental responsibility.

In expressly suitable family adventures, children from the stated family minimum age, and no younger than eight, may play along on an accompanying adult's device. No separate players, roles or device locations are created for them. The age limits stated for the individual story apply. Individual stories may require a minimum age of 13, 16 or 18. Being accompanied does not override a higher minimum age.

Persons with parental responsibility agree to participation and ensure that supervision is actually provided during the adventure. If another adult takes on supervision, that adult must have been asked to do so by the persons with parental responsibility and must accept the task. TaleAlley does not provide personal on-site supervision of its own. Participation approval is not blanket consent under data protection law. The age-related restrictions described in the app apply to minors.

5. Joining, introduction and start of the adventure

After entering the event code, choosing a player name and checking the participation requirements, a player is assigned to the event and team. A real name is not required. Minors are admitted only after parental approval has been completed.

Further devices may join within the booked places while the team is in the lobby. “Start introduction” only begins preparation. Only after the introduction, safety information, briefing and the required readiness confirmations does an authorised adult explicitly start the adventure. This actual start of play is decisive for the voluntary 30-day cancellation. After the start, no further devices can generally join.

6. Purchase, statutory withdrawal and voluntary cancellation

Paddle as the seller is responsible for the ticket purchase and any statutory right of withdrawal. Which statutory withdrawal rights exist and under which conditions they may expire early is governed by the applicable statutory provisions and by Paddle's buyer terms and withdrawal information provided in the checkout. For digital products, the right of withdrawal may expire early, for example if the buyer expressly agrees that provision begins before the withdrawal period ends, confirms the loss of the right of withdrawal and receives the confirmation of the contract required by law. A statutory withdrawal is declared to Paddle, for example through Paddle's buyer support at paddle.net. The following voluntary rules do not restrict any statutory right.

In addition, we offer free cancellation of individual tickets or all tickets within 30 calendar days of purchase, as long as the ticket concerned has not been used. A ticket counts as used as soon as a device takes part with it in an adventure that has actually been started from the lobby. Merely downloading the app, entering the code, joining the lobby or going through the introduction does not count as use. For example, if four of six purchased tickets took part in the started adventure, the two unused tickets can be cancelled within the period. If a device already occupies a place in the lobby before the start, it has to leave the lobby before that place can be cancelled. If teen tickets remain after a partial cancellation, at least one adult ticket has to remain.

You can cancel through the form at talealley.app/en/cancellation. To confirm, we send a link to the email address used for the purchase. Alternatively, you can send your cancellation request within the period in text form to . Please include the Paddle order number or the event code and the number of tickets. We refund the full price of every cancelled ticket through Paddle to the original payment method. We bear the fees of our payment provider. The cancelled places are deactivated and the remaining tickets stay valid. Voluntary free cancellation of used tickets or after the 30 days have passed is not available. Statutory rights relating to withdrawal, failure to provide the service or defects remain unaffected.

7. Public test

While we run a public test, you can sign up your group for one story free of charge at talealley.app/test. Each story has only a limited number of test places. We allocate them in the order of sign-ups and there is no entitlement to a place. We may end the test at any time and change the number of test places. Codes already sent then remain valid until they expire.

Only an adult can sign up, once per email address. You state your group truthfully, at most eight people including at least one adult, and you are our contact person for the group. The same rules apply to minors as with purchased tickets, in particular the story's age rating, parental approval, supervision by an adult and the restrictions on individual functions.

After you submit the sign-up form, we email you a link. Your group's place is saved only once you confirm the sign-up with this link. Until you confirm, we hold the place for up to 48 hours. If you do not confirm in time, we delete the sign-up and the place becomes free again. We send you an event code for the chosen story and up to eight people later by email, when the app is available in the App Store and on Google Play. It is valid for 14 days from the day we send it, and the email with the code states the exact date. After that, no further device can join and no adventure can be started. An adventure that has already started can be played to the end. You may share the code only with your fellow players.

The app is new. During the test, errors may occur and content or processes may change. Feedback after the game is a condition of taking part in the test. For this, we send you an email with a few questions after the game. By signing up, you agree to answer them. We may use the feedback you send us to improve TaleAlley. Posting your impressions on social media and tagging TaleAlley, or sending us photos and videos for our social media channels, is voluntary. We are always happy when you do. The newsletter is also voluntary and not a condition of taking part. We publish photos and videos only if all identifiable people have given their explicit consent beforehand. We do not publish photos or videos showing minors.

Otherwise these terms apply. Section 6 on purchase, statutory withdrawal and voluntary cancellation does not apply to free test participation.

8. Technical requirements and availability

You need a smartphone compatible with the app currently offered and the functions required for the selected story, in particular a suitable internet connection and, depending on the role, location services, camera or motion sensors. Supported operating systems are listed in the current store information. The microphone is needed only for the optional AI voice feature. The directional microphone game tool plays prepared audio.

Mobile networks, GPS, maps, operating systems and external technical services may be impaired. Maintenance and necessary security or feature updates may cause temporary interruptions. We aim for reasonable availability and error correction. Mandatory statutory claims to provision in line with the contract, necessary updates and remedies remain unaffected.

9. Playing safely in public spaces

Actual conditions on site always take priority over maps, GPS, story texts and app instructions. Use only public, permitted paths and areas. Follow traffic lights, traffic rules, signs, barriers, house rules and actual hazards. Do not enter private, closed or clearly inaccessible areas. TaleAlley never requires climbing, swimming, wading, jumping or crossing obstacles. When crossing roads, your full attention belongs to the traffic, not to your phone.

If a mission location cannot be reached safely, use the help offered, an alternative or the skip function. In unsafe weather or other hazardous conditions, interrupt play. The adventure can be continued later within the technical limits of the app. The separate safety information is available before the start and in Settings. TaleAlley Help is not an emergency service. In an acute emergency, call 112.

10. Location, roles and age-dependent features

Location data of adult players may be necessary during an ongoing adventure for orientation, location checks and team functions. Digital route and distance information may be inaccurate. A place is not actually accessible or safe merely because it appears in the app.

No GPS locations of their own are collected for TaleAlley on the devices of minor players. Location-based game values are instead derived from the position of an adult team member. The Command and Compass roles and the AI walkie-talkie are reserved for adults. In a team with only one adult, that person can take on the required adult functions.

11. Optional AI feature

The AI walkie-talkie is optional and available only to adult participants. The clues and solutions needed for the adventure are meant to be available without AI through the alternatives provided. Before each use, the necessary information on voice processing is shown, and microphone permission is requested only after an active choice. AI answers may contain errors and never authorise particular routes, access or risky actions. Do not speak confidential or unnecessary personal information. Details are in the privacy policy.

12. Fair play and misuse

Puzzles should be solved using the supplied information, game functions and intended observations at the location. Deliberately bypassing game mechanics through manipulated codes, game progress, scores, server requests or unauthorised technical interference is prohibited. In serious or repeated cases, we may take appropriate measures, for example correct competition results or block affected access after review. The interests of uninvolved team members and statutory rights are taken into account.

13. Stories, media and user content

TaleAlley texts, stories, puzzles, illustrations, audio and video may be used only for the intended use. Publishing complete puzzle solutions, recordings or substantial parts of a story, and commercial exploitation, require appropriate permission unless the law allows otherwise.

Photos you submit voluntarily must not infringe the rights of others. Submit only pictures for which you hold the necessary rights. Public group photos are subject to additional, separately confirmed consent and age requirements. After review, we may remove unlawful or clearly unsuitable content or decline to publish it. The details of optional Hall of Fame publication are explained separately.

14. Changes, pausing and end of play

We may change missions, clues, locations, routes and technical processes where this is necessary for safety reasons, to reflect changes to real places, to fix errors or for necessary technical adjustments, and where it is reasonable for the user. This must not unreasonably impair the essential characteristics of the purchased adventure. Statutory rights to remedies and warranty remain in place.

An adventure that has begun can be interrupted and continued later within the intended limits. After final completion, the player's own score and the unlocked knowledge are available on the device, and a longer story recap with selected images if the story has one. A complete archive of all missions, collected items, AI conversations and videos is not promised. Server gameplay data is generally cleared after confirmed saving on the designated devices, no later than seven days after final completion. Recovery of deleted local data after removing the app cannot be promised. Records required by law, purchase data and separately approved Hall of Fame content are not affected.

15. Support and liability

For questions about the game, codes and technical problems, contact . For purchases and voluntary cancellation, contact . Statutory purchase and refund claims can be asserted against Paddle as the seller.

We are liable without limitation under statutory provisions for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. In cases of slight negligence, we are liable for breaches of essential obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the user relationship possible in the first place, limited to foreseeable damage typical of the contract, to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory statutory liability and consumer rights remain unaffected. General information about taking part on your own responsibility does not exclude a breach of duty legally attributable to us.

16. Changes to these terms

The version effectively included when joining applies to the run concerned. Changes generally apply to future use and are shown before joining again where necessary. Rights already acquired are not restricted retroactively. Where changes require renewed agreement, it will be obtained separately.
